Ericsson joins UNIE University as industrial partner for their new MSc in AI & Deep Learning in Spain, launching October 2026, shaping next-gen AI talent.
Ericsson announces its collaboration with UNIE University, part of Planeta Formación Universidades, as an industrial partner for the university's brand-new Master of Science (MSc) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Deep Learning program, launching in October 2026.
This collaboration reflects Ericsson's strategic commitment to shaping the next generation of AI expertise and the company’s long-standing tradition of collaborating with leading academic institutions to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world industrial applications.
A partnership built on shared vision
AI is fundamentally reshaping the telecommunications landscape. Ericsson envisions a future where the convergence of AI, mobile networks, and Cloud will serve as a primary engine of technological evolution and innovation. Delivering on that vision requires access to world-class talent and building that talent pipeline starts with education.
Following the establishment of brand-new postgraduate AI programs across Spain, Ericsson selected UNIE's MSc in AI & Deep Learning program as a standout offering, distinguished by its high educational standards, industrial focus, and forward-looking curriculum design. The decision led to the signing of a formal collaboration agreement between both institutions, establishing a framework for ongoing engagement and mutual contribution.
Juan Olivera, President of Ericsson Spain, says: "AI is not just a technology trend. It is the defining force of our industry's future. At Ericsson, we are already embedding AI into the critical processes and systems of mobile networks, while simultaneously building the next generation of networks to carry massive AI traffic at scale. Partnerships like this one with UNIE Universidad are essential to ensuring the talent ecosystem keeps pace with that ambition".
Segundo Píriz, Rector of UNIE University adds: "Collaborating with global industry leaders like Ericsson provides our students with distinct expertise and a clear competitive edge. This joint Master's program not only highlights UNIE’s innovative spirit and strong ties to the corporate world, but also reinforces our commitment to ensuring graduates are fully equipped to drive immediate value in the workplace."
Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson has taken an active and substantive role supporting UNIE in shaping the MSc program to maximize its relevance and value for both students and industry. Ericsson's R&D experts have provided detailed feedback and recommendations to strengthen the program's goals, focus, and structure, specifically oriented toward enhancing the employability of graduates in the AI and telecoms sectors.
A long tradition of academic collaboration
This collaboration with UNIE builds on Ericsson Spain's strong and long-established tradition of supporting and co-developing unique postgraduate programs with top Spanish universities. Previous collaborations include:
- MSc in Large-Scale Software Architecture and Design, developed in partnership with Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM)
- MSc in Network Virtualization & 5G, developed in partnership with Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M)
To date, these programs have trained hundreds of engineers and attracted top undergraduate talent in fields critical to the company's R&D operations in Spain. The collaboration with UNIE represents the natural evolution of this approach into the AI era.
