Faster applications in 6G with contention-based buffer status reporting

Round-trip time can be a significant bottleneck for applications on 5G networks, affecting both application performance and user experience. Ericsson therefore proposes a 6G mechanism that reduces uplink scheduling delays, addressing one contributor to application-level latency. Simulation results with end-to-end protocols and detailed application models demonstrate a 33 percent increase in web-page download bitrate and a 51 percent reduction in latency for UL real-time video.
