Discover how Telefonica and Ericsson enabled tech influencer Evan Kirstel to use cutting edge technology and enhance his experience at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025.

Discover how differentiated connectivity with a 5G network slice transforms live broadcasting and streaming experiences

With over 100,000 people all in one place, MWC 2025 presented a challenging area for any mobile communication on site. Despite this, Ericsson and Telefonica enabled Tech Influencer Evan Kirstel to connect with his 500,000 followers with a live tour of the Telefonica booth from his point of view. Utilising a pair of smart Meta glasses and smartphone on Telefonica's 5G network slice, Evan was able to deliver a high-quality live stream, regardless of where he was and the high volume of people attending the trade show

Juan Cambeiro, Head of Customer Innovation Projects at Telefonica Spain, explains how the network slicing capability is unique to 5G, reserving a part of the network for services that need guaranteed bandwidth to work. An example of such service is video live streaming, where Telefonica's network slice reserved 30% of the available bandwidth for video uplink traffic.

"The ability of 5G and network slicing to deliver me a high-quality network, on-demand wherever I am, at an event with 100,000 people, is truly a game changer."

Explaining how this caters to consumer needs, Jasmeet Sethi Singh, Head of Ericsson ConsumerLab, stresses that application quality of experience is 10x more important for end consumers than speed alone. Peak speeds are no longer the priority for consumers, with video streaming, video calling, and gaming application experiences being more important. Tailoring the user experience through performance for each different service is fundamental to delivering differentiated connectivity.
