Network APIs for FWA Congestion Management and usage control

FWA usage control

Service providers can leverage Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) to deliver high-speed, flexible internet services without landlines. Network APIs could help service providers to manage congestion, boosting service quality and revenue potential.

Overview

High data consumption by FWA users can lead to network congestion, affecting service quality for all subscribers. Efficient management of cell resources is crucial to maintaining optimal performance.

Challenge

Heavy data usage in congested areas can slow down broadband services, requiring dynamic adjustments to maintain equitable access for all users.

Solution

Utilize network APIs to monitor and predict congestion, throttling high-consuming FWA users when necessary. This ensures balanced resource allocation while complying with net neutrality regulations, restoring default service levels once congestion is alleviated.

How it works

  1. NEF is subscribed to the cell congestion info from analytics platform
  2. FWA CPE cells are close to congestion and the analytics system notifies NEF with a congestion prediction
  3. AF in the Network will collect the information about high consuming FWA users in the cell
  4. AF will ask NEF to throttle high consuming FWA user via QoS API
  5. Once congestion situation has been reduced then those high consuming FWA users can get back to their default QoS level via NEF

Business applications

The main target segment for this case is the CSPs with challenges managing FWA subscribers with heavy data usage in congested cells.

Business models

Service providers can ensure balanced resource allocation by downgrading QoS for high-consuming FWA users during congestion, based on countries' net neutrality regulations.
