Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) continues to invest in France and has just inaugurated its new broadcast and media services facility in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris. The Mediadome is one of Europe's most advanced broadcast and media centers, housing a 3,000 square meter state-of-the-art TV facility as well as the offices of Canal+Overseas. The center currently manages production, post-production and distribution of 30 television channels, as well as non-linear, on-demand services.
The opening ceremony on December 3 2014 coincided with a Swedish state visit to France and was attended by Mikael Damberg, Sweden's Minister for Enterprise and Innovation. The new center is part of Ericsson's strategy to grow its business in France to support the ongoing transformation of the broadcast and media services industry.
With media content now available on TV screens, smartphones, desktop computers and tablets, video will account for more than half of all mobile data traffic by 2020, according to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report.
New ways of consuming programming — video on demand, replay TV and streaming video — are having a significant impact on the traditional broadcaster business models, who increasingly benefit from partners that specialize in developing new services and adapting capacity and infrastructure to meet the new requirements in a cost-effective manner.
Ericsson helps broadcasters to manage the complexity of today's media landscape and its increasingly mobile nature. In recent years, has signed agreements with broadcasters such as NPO and NOS (Netherlands), Canal+, TV Monde and France 24 (France), HBO Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden), and many others.
As a result of the Red Bee Media acquisition in 2014, Ericsson now has broadcast and media services agreements with new customers such as the BBC, BSkyB, BT Sport, Canal Digital, Channel 4, Channel 5, EE, ITV, UKTV, UPC, Virgin Media, and many others.
