Telecom Italia and Ericsson partner to launch innovative mobile services at Expo 2015

The agreement will contribute to the creation of the Smart City within Universal Exposition further increasing quality of services for exhibitors and visitors.

Telecom Italia and Ericsson have signed an agreement for the supply of mobile services and innovative solutions based on 3G and 4G mobile networks that will be delivered as part of Expo 2015.

Ericsson solutions will be used by Telecom Italia to develop a sustainable and intelligent city – the first Smart City of the future – and the exhibition area of Expo 2015 will be an example.

Telecom Italia, as Integrated Connectivity and Services Partner of Expo 2015, is involved in the creation of a Digital Smart City providing fixed, mobile and IT network infrastructure equipment, together with the most advanced technologies, operations and maintenance management activities and the delivery of data and voice services.

The number of smart devices is growing and the demand for mobile broadband services is increasing. The agreement between Ericsson and Telecom Italia will allow meeting the increasingly high expectations of connectivity quality and networking capacity in particular during big and crowded events such as Expo 2015. The use of the most advanced mobile broadband technologies will also allow visitors to benefit from a better user experience for TV and entertainment services.

Ericsson will provide Telecom Italia with the most advanced mobile network solutions (Radio Access Network and Core) to optimize services for 20 million visitors and participants from around the world, expected during the event. The network infrastructure will guarantee the necessary coverage and will respond to all connectivity needs of visitors (an average of 140.000 visitors per day, up to 250,000) as well as of thousands of people involved in hospitality and assistance.

"Ericsson contribution enables us to deploy the best mobile technologies in order to ensure high-quality services to Expo 2015 exhibitors and visitors," says Roberto Opilio, Chief Technology Officer at Telecom Italia. "The interaction with multimedia devices within the exhibition area and the ability to share content and videos both during the tour and downtime will require high capacity infrastructures and it will be a key element to make the event an unforgettable experience for visitors and for those who cannot physically be in Milan".

"Ericsson, present in Italy since 1918, is playing a crucial role in the creation of the Networked Society in order to develop more efficient cities with more and more innovative services. The collaboration with Telecom Italia is an important step for us to turn our vision into a concrete reality and to strengthen once more our long-lasting partnership" says Nunzio Mirtillo, Country Manager, Ericsson Italy, and Head of Region Mediterranean, Ericsson "We are proud to contribute to the success of this important event with our innovative mobile networks and advanced services. The event will be crucial for the re-launch of Italy competitiveness globally and its goals " helping society to progress, supporting a sustainable development model and improving people quality of life " are aligned with ours".
