Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform wins IBC best of show award

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced that Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform, the company’s new software defined, media-optimized platform for the creation, management and delivery of next generation Pay TV, has been honored by NewBay Media’s TVBEurope with an IBC 2014 Best of Show Award. The award recognizes new and outstanding products exhibited at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam.

As seen in Ericsson's ConsumerLab report, consumers today demand a seamless and personalized video experience across devices, leaving operators in the position of having to quickly adapt to and anticipate shifts in consumer behavior.

Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform was designed with a consumer-first mentality to help account for these behavioral shifts, bringing together the best of over the top (OTT) and Pay TV to enable personalized, device-agnostic TV experiences.

Ericsson estimates that by 2020 there will be 1.5 billion homes with digital television and over 50 billion connected devices relying on a global IP network dominated by video. To meet rising demands, operators must be able to significantly reduce the time it takes to introduce new services across all devices.

Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform enables operators to deliver a leading TV service. The end-to-end cloud-based platform is based on open standards and architected to be cloud agnostic, enabling delivery on public and OpenStack private clouds. Operations for Pay TV service providers are simplified through a unified backend that enables rapid release cycles. The platform’s operator portal delivers advanced analytics to help operators identify key business drivers and significantly reduces time to market for new services.

Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform will be generally available to operators in Q2 2015.
