Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), the leader in the cable Wi-Fi industry with more than 100,000 cable Wi-Fi access points shipped globally, today announced the industry’s first 802.11ac Wave 2 access point, Ericsson AP 6335. The new strand-mounted cable access point is designed to handle the growing demands of the cable industry, including a state-of-the-art DOCSIS modem and multi-user MIMO for increased network capacity.

The AP 6335, the evolution of the Ericsson BelAir 100SNE cable access point (AP), mounts directly on the hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) line to connect both power and backhaul. It is sleek, compact and easy for cable operators to deploy and install.

Paul Challoner, Head of Wi-Fi, Ericsson, says: “Ericsson is excited to introduce the AP 6335, the most advanced access point in the cable industry. This robust, high-performance outdoor access point will meet the complex and stringent requirements of cable operators and enable them to meet the demand of data-hungry, Wi-Fi consumers.”

The AP 6335, part of Ericsson’s leading small cell portfolio, enables network deployment flexibility through standards-based protocols including Passpoint Release 2.0 and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Supporting data offload with instant network detection, selection and authentication, the AP 6335 enables new value streams through inter-carrier Wi-Fi roaming, reaching new devices and new venues for existing subscriber bases. Passpoint 2.0 offers best-in-class security for SIM and non-SIM devices.
