NTT DOCOMO is about to bring the first NFV to life in real networks, expecting gains from both a cost perspective, as well as speed and flexibility in delivering applications.

In this video, Dr. Hiroshi Nakamura, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of R&D Strategy Department at NTT DOCOMO in Japan, shares his view on how Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) research and standardization – in collaboration with vendors and other operators – is now getting close to real implementation.
The benefits expected by introducing NFV are cost reduction, more robust networks, early introduction of services, and flexibility in implementation.

The road does not end here though; the role of SDN for data center connectivity is also being explored.
