PISCATAWAY, N.J. – March 26, 2015 – Telcordia Technologies, Inc., D/B/A iconectiv, the world leader in number portability services, announced today that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted an order instructing the North American Portability Management LLC (NAPM) to initiate contract negotiations with iconectiv to serve as the new national Local Number Portability Administrator (LNPA) for all seven of the U.S. Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC) regions.

“We are delighted to serve as the next U.S. LNPA provider and we look forward to assuming that role,” said Richard Jacowleff, President and CEO of iconectiv. “We worked very hard to construct a compelling proposal that addressed the needs of all service providers and U.S. law enforcement, which would ultimately benefit the more than 425 million consumers in the United States and Puerto Rico. We’d like to thank members of the Commission, the North American Number Council (NANC) and the NAPM, who have all worked tirelessly for several years to conduct a fair and open competition. iconectiv looks forward to working with the industry, regulators and the incumbent to ensure a smooth transition so that carriers and consumers can quickly benefit from the modernization of services, lower fees and our proven capabilities, including supporting number portability solutions in 19 countries.”

iconectiv was selected by the NANC as the new LNPA after a long and thorough process conducted by the FCC, NANC and the NAPM, which included extensive commentary and engagement with the public, the telecommunications industry and state, local and federal law enforcement agencies.

“We have a comprehensive approach to transitioning the LNPA service, which leverages our decades of experience including collaboration and testing with carriers, law enforcement agencies and other NPAC users,” added Jacowleff. “iconectiv has participated in the U.S. number portability ecosystem since its inception and has previously developed and is a trusted administer of several other critical U.S. telecommunications databases and infrastructures. For years, we have been an integral supplier of technology and services to the members of the number portability ecosystem and we are focused on a quick, smooth and efficient LNPA transition.”

Following execution of a contract and transition, as the new LNPA, iconectiv will manage the Number Portability Administration Center / Service Management System (NPAC/SMS). The NPAC/SMS is the central database that supports the secure and efficient porting or transfer of telephone numbers to enable customers to keep their telephone numbers when switching communications service providers. More than 2,000 wireless, wireline, VoIP and cable service providers and dozens of law enforcement agencies in the United States and Puerto Rico depend on this central common and authoritative database for mission-critical numbering services.
