Ericsson and Dutch operator KPN have fitted a bus stop with a compact Radio 2203. Using Ericsson’s centralized RAN architecture for small cells, the bus stop delivers speeds up to 192Mbps.

The solution provides seamless mobility for users as they move in and out of the small-cell coverage area, using centralized baseband to ensure full coordination with the macro network.

By deploying small cells on existing infrastructure, new sites can be rolled out rapidly, supporting both bulk acquisition and mass deployment. The smart radiosite solution addresses the signaling challenges posed by urban environments, and delivers the excellent performance levels demanded by today’s user.

The site has been operational since the end of 2015, delivering user speeds up to 192Mbps during walk tests.
