Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has completed the 5G trial in Turkey, achieving transmission speeds in excess of 22 Gbps and paving the way for commercial deployment expected as soon as 2020.

The trial took place on January 17 at the Istanbul Technical University Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center and brought together representatives of the Ministry of Telecommunication in Turkey, the Turkish Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, local telecom operators, local industry players and media.

This is the latest in a series of 5G trials that Ericsson has facilitated globally, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the standardization and deployment of 5G networks.

Ziya Erdem, Head of Ericsson Turkey, says: “The next four or five years will see a number of technological breakthroughs in this country. 5G technology will enable a variety of advances ranging from remote healthcare to driverless vehicles, and Ericsson will continue to play its part in making this possible.”

Ericsson is using its industry-leading 5G trial system to support multiple engagements with different operators around the world, enabling operator partners to trial various applications with different set-ups and explore new business opportunities.
