Ericsson partners with Sterlite Technologies to drive smart sustainable city initiatives in India

Ericsson enters into a strategic relationship with Sterlite to implement solutions for Smart Sustainable Cities as a part of Digital India program, focuses on driving opportunities in Industry & Society sectors in India.

The concept of smart cities has become synonymous with high-tech urban innovation, wherein technology-based solutions leverage existing infrastructure in innovative ways to solve the daily challenges of city life. However, the concept is more than about employing advanced technologies. Smart sustainable cities efficiently drive sustainable economic growth, competitiveness, prosperity and a better life for citizens through holistic deployment of ICT solutions.

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has signed an agreement with Sterlite Technologies, a leading global provider of transmission solutions for the telecom and power industries, to work together in driving Smart Sustainable City initiatives in India in line with Government’s vision of Digital India. Under the agreement, Ericsson will collaborate with Sterlite to design a roadmap and deploy solutions and services required to create a fully functioning knowledge-based society.The alliance will design, deploy, integrate and manage solutions in areas such as communications, public safety, intelligent transport and smart grid solutions, which will enable the establishment of sustainable smart cities in India.

The solutions covered in the agreement include: Communications (Wi-Fi networks and Fiber deployment), Public safety (Video situational awareness solutions and Emergency Response), Intelligent transport (Traffic Management and Fleet Management) and Smart Grid solutions (Smart Grid communications and Smart Metering).
