Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today unveiled new end-to-end cloud-enabled media management services, the latest addition to its Broadcast and Media Services portfolio. The services, which make their debut at IBC 2014, are designed to manage secure contribution, archiving and media processing in the public and private cloud.
These services will deliver new benefits to broadcasters by providing unparalleled security, choice, agility and efficiency while eliminating the substantial upfront costs often associated with hardware and infrastructure.
Ericsson will showcase the services at IBC (Hall 1, D61), including demonstrations of the secure cloud archive and secure cloud gateway that enable their delivery. The secure cloud archive is a cloud-based, online deep archive utilizing low-cost, highly durable public cloud storage with strong content protection. The secure cloud gateway is a cloud-based media contribution and validation tool for accelerated secure file delivery. Functionality will include:
- File receipt gateway: Mechanisms used to send files for processing, including connectivity, accelerators and content encryption
- Verification: Services that verify content is received as expected and compliant with specified standards
- Transformation: Services that prepare content for multiple platforms and territories
- Delivery: Services for the packaging and delivery of video content to its final destination

As we approach 2020, Ericsson believes that consumers will increasingly embrace the convenience of on-demand access to content. This change in viewing behavior will dramatically increase the complexity of media management, as content will need to be created and delivered to multiple different platforms and catch-up services, often with short lead times. Ericsson has created a standardized service business that will help broadcasters and aggregators to meet these challenges.
This launch builds on Ericsson's considerable strategic investments in the TV and Media area, strengthening the offering toward broadcast service providers. It also supports a general transformation toward more scalable and agile software- and service-driven business models in the converging media communications, data communications and telecommunications industries.
