  • In this role, Håkan will focus on driving Ericsson’s transformation towards a leading ICT innovator, to meet the needs of our customers and create value in the Networked Society
  • In 2020 75 percent of people in South East Asia and Oceania will have access to LTE, driving data growth and business opportunities for all markets

Ericsson’s (NASDAQ:ERIC) region South East Asia and Oceania is a diverse and growing market for Ericsson. In the region, Ericsson has over 4000 employees to support more than 35 major fixed and mobile telecom operators and a growing number of TV broadcasters, utilities and government public safety customers.

Sam Saba, Head of Region South East Asia and Oceania, said: ”From 1 January, 2016, Håkan Eriksson, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand will take up the role of Head of Strategy for Region South East Asia and Oceania, strengthening Ericsson’s strategy development and execution in the region, and supporting the delivery of ICT solutions for our customers”

Håkan Eriksson brings enormous knowledge and experience to this role, from his most recent position as Head of Australia and New Zealand, and his years as the Ericsson Group Chief Technology Officer and President of Ericsson Silicon Valley.

Per Narvinger, Head of LTE, Ericsson says: “With the high pace of innovation in the device and application industry, users increasingly expect high-performance coverage and the ability to use their apps anytime, anywhere. Activating new advanced network capabilities provides operators with a more solid and secure network performance.”

”Under Håkan’s leadership our Australian business has achieved a number of significant world’s firsts, the most recent being the first demonstration of 1Gbps using 5 carrier aggregation over Telstra’s mobile network. Additionally, Håkan has been overseeing the successful roll out of the nbn fixed wireless network across rural and regional Australia, with more than 1,400 sites acquired and 1,000 sites ready for service, delivering 268k premises and 47k activations to date*. These achievements strengthen the digital opportunities for all Australians,” said Saba.

The recently released South East Asia and Oceania Ericsson Mobility Report reveals a strong region with mix of telecommunications opportunities. By the end of 2015, South East Asia and Oceania will have more than 1 billion mobile subscriptions, which is about 13 percent of the global market. Three countries in this region, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, recorded among the top-ten highest net additions globally for mobile subscriptions in the third quarter 2015. Additionally, 75 percent of people in the region will have access to LTE networks in five years. These trends present both opportunities for growth for operators as well as challenges.

Håkan Eriksson, Head of Australia and New Zealand, said ”It is a really exciting time to be in our region. Many customers are looking to expand breadth of coverage in rural areas and upgrade networks to improve efficiency. Whilst others are looking to address densification in rapidly urbanizing cities, building services on advanced high speed networks or exploring opportunities to transform their business with network function virtualization and cloud based capabilities.”

”As a technology solution provider at heart I am looking forward to working with operators on capturing growth opportunities as well as working with new customers and industry stakeholders to help drive the transformation of industries and society, particularly in the utilities, public safety and transport sectors,” said Eriksson.

Ericsson offers customers in South East Asia and Oceania global scale mixed with extensive local knowledge based on a long history of delivering solutions across mature, developing and greenfield ICT markets. South East Asia and Oceania comprises markets such as Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.
