At Mobile World Congress 2016, Ericsson’s (NASDAQ: ERIC) Radio System and Radio Dot System took home two top awards. Ericsson Radio System was recognized by the GSMA with the Global Mobile Award for Best Mobile Infrastructure, while Ericsson Radio Dot System received the Outstanding Contribution on Innovative Solution and Application award at the annual GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative) Summit.
The GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards, the mobile industry’s longest-established awards platform, showcases the value that mobility brings to users, industries, businesses, communities and economies. Winners are selected by a panel of independent judges, typically comprising leading industry and subject matter experts, analysts, journalists and academics and in some cases mobile operator representatives.
Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA, says: “With more than 930 entries this year – a new record – the competition is greater than ever, reflecting the tremendous diversity and pace of innovation across the mobile world. We are particularly excited to be celebrating the 21st year of the awards with a dynamic new format that will recognize and honor achievement throughout Mobile World Congress.”
Available since third quarter 2015, Ericsson Radio System consists of hardware and software for radio, baseband, power, antenna, enclosure and site solutions, the integrated industry-leading MINI-LINK portfolio for microwave transmission and a fully integrated IP Router portfolio, all managed by the same management system.
The industry’s most compact radios are 50 percent smaller and lighter than previous products and enable more flexible and cost-efficient site designs.
Ericsson also received the Outstanding Contribution on Innovative Solution and Application award for the Radio Dot System on February 23, 2016, at the annual GTI Summit during Mobile World Conference in Barcelona. This award honors the innovation and excellent performance of this solution which aims to help operators improve indoor coverage.
Erik Ekudden, VP and Head of Technology Strategy, Ericsson, says: “We are truly delighted to be recognized by GTI. The Radio Dot System is an Ericsson innovation to improve indoor network performance, which builds on our award-winning radio architecture and provides an extensive feature set.”
Rolled out with over 100 operators, the Dot is helping operators to improve mobile data throughput by up to 5 times, reduce dropped calls to zero, and reduce installation times. The Radio Dot System is a key differentiator of Ericsson’s Mobile Enterprise strategy to empower mobile and converged operators to deliver integrated cloud, connectivity and communications as-a-service to their enterprise customers.
Radio Dot System is an Ericsson small cell solution. This solution can fully integrate with macro mobile networks and leverage existing indoor wiring and outdoor cellular infrastructure. It has a small dot-shaped form factor design which makes it very discreet in any kind of deployment environment. It is the perfect solution to boost indoor user experience by enhancing coverage and capacity in in-building deployments.
