June 30, 2021 – Entel Chile and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) announced today a new three-year agreement, expanding their strategic partnership of more than 25 years, aimed at ensuring continuous modernization of the mobile networks for the Chilean market. This agreement ensures the development of new telecommunications projects, network support services as well as projecting the connectivity of the future deployment of 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), which is expected to be implemented before the end of the year.
Building on Ericsson and Entel long-term partnership, the new 5G deal will help to enable the next generation of innovation in Chile, with extensive 5G applications using augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and IoT capability. It is also an environmentally sustainable spectrum as it allows for lower energy consumption per transferred byte. Innovation in Chile will be powered by this connectivity, with 5G set to be the key to unlocking a huge range of new opportunities.
Entel will deploy a next-generation 5G network using Ericsson 5G RAN products and solutions from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, including Ericsson Spectrum Sharing, Massive MIMO radios for high-band (26GHz) and mid-band (3.5GHz), and millimeter wave solutions.
“Our purpose as a company is to bring together the infinite possibilities that technology offers, and to project ourselves as a leading transforming agent for society, through technological enablers that improve people's quality of life, the competitiveness of companies and therefore a society with more opportunities for all. And together with Ericsson, we will be able to continue providing our customers with new and innovative services and use cases, together with a superior browsing experience, now leveraged on the new 5G network”, says Antonio Büchi, CEO of Entel.
“Ericsson is very proud to remain partner in RAN for Entel Chile and now extend the partnership to take this step towards 5G. We are powering almost 90 live commercial 5G networks in 43 countries, and we are very happy to take the lead once again. Our industry-leading solutions support 2.5 billion 2G to 5G subscribers, representing one third of the world's population.
