A look at how employees used their volunteering day to make a difference
- How our people across the globe turn purpose into action every year
- Real stories from employees using their volunteering day to support communities across the world
Every year, people across Ericsson use their time and skills during their global volunteering day to support the communities around them. It’s one of our most meaningful benefits because it gives everyone the chance to focus on something close to their heart, whether that’s education, food security, cleaning up local communities, or creating more inspiring spaces for young people.
Before we get into this year’s personal stories, here’s a quick look at some of the moments captured across our global volunteering efforts.
Our volunteers in action
Cloris on Plogging and first aid training in Beijing
Cloris joined Ericsson’s Plogging (picking up litter while jogging) activity as part of a World Cleanup Day engagement, where almost one hundred colleagues from the Beijing office spent the morning collecting litter from nearby streets and parks. It was a simple effort, but seeing how quickly small pieces of waste added up made her realize how much difference a little awareness can make.
She also volunteered to join Ericsson’s first aid responder team. The program trains employees in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator) use and basic emergency response, giving them the skills to support others in critical moments. What struck her during the training was how many colleagues returned for refresher sessions even after completing similar programs before. “Their commitment reminded me that caring for others is a mindset,” she said. For Cloris, volunteering is a way to live the values she sees at Ericsson every day: responsibility, empathy and community. “Practicing CPR made me realize these skills could one day help someone I know,” she said. “That thought has stayed with me.”

Granville on supporting Kodcentrum’s LEGO Robotics course in Stockholm
Granville used his volunteering day to support Kodcentrum, a nonprofit that helps children aged nine to thirteen explore coding in a fun, hands-on way. Over six weeks, he worked with a group of twenty students taking part in Kodcentrum’s LEGO Robotics course hosted at our Kista office. Each week, he guided them as they built and tested their own LEGO cars, helping them understand the basics of programming and encouraging them when they hit hurdles.
He said, “seeing their excitement when the cars finally moved was priceless,” and that moment reminded him why he gives his time to youth-focused initiatives. For Granville, it wasn’t just about teaching kids to code. It was about showing them what they’re capable of, helping them build confidence and being part of something that sparks curiosity at a young age. It also connected him to colleagues he wouldn’t normally work with, reinforcing the shared impact that volunteering can bring across teams.

Nicole on volunteering at the North Texas Food Bank in Plano
Nicole joined five colleagues from the Talent Acquisition team at the North Texas Food Bank, where they spent an afternoon packing food items for families in need. With music playing and volunteers from all backgrounds working side by side, the group prepared boxes filled with essentials like beans, cereal and pasta. Over 2.5 hours, they helped pack an incredible 90,000 pounds of food.
What stayed with Nicole most was the people she met along the way. “So many volunteers were there on their own, not because of a company event, but simply because they wanted to help,” she said. That sense of shared purpose shaped the whole experience. She described the room as one team, cheering every time a pallet was completed and celebrating the collective effort to support local families. For her, that feeling mirrors what she values about Ericsson: you don’t need to know everyone to feel like you’re moving toward the same goal.

Rupa on creating hand-painted school murals across six cities in India
Rupa took part in one of the largest employee volunteering efforts this year in India, where around 250 employees came together across six cities to transform blank school walls into colourful murals. The project brought together volunteers in Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Gurugram and Noida, creating a total of 92 murals that turned classrooms, hallways and playgrounds into brighter, more inspiring learning environments.
For Rupa, one of the most meaningful moments happened at the Kadampukur Free Primary School in Kolkata. She described how previously plain, tired rooms suddenly felt alive with colour and hope. “Every child deserves a joyful learning environment,” she said, and each painted wall represented that belief. As the Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility Lead for the Kolkata Centre, she sees initiatives like this as an expression of who we are — people who show up for their communities and for each other. The project brought colleagues together across teams, levels and cities, reinforcing how shared action can create lasting impact.

Thank you to every employee who used their volunteering day this year. Your stories show the difference one day can make for communities, each other and the people who will benefit long after the paint dries or the boxes are packed.
