Under the four-year agreement and as preferred supplier, Ericsson will modernize Entel’s 2G, 3G and 4G radio access core network using Ericsson’s AIR, antenna integrated radio unit and Evolved Packet Core (EPC). Ericsson will also deploy Latin America’s first LTE network in the APT 700MHz band. 4G subscribers will be able to enjoy excellent in-building coverage, faster download speeds, improved throughput and low latency.

Chile is a highly competitive market with increasing growth in data traffic and demand for mobile broadband coverage. With this background, Entel has renewed its strategic partnership with Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) through the year 2018 to supply its 4G/LTE network on the APT700MHz band, as well as and the modernization of its 2G, 3G and 4G network access on six different frequency bands. The Evolved Packet Core network is built on the Evolved Packet Gateway (EPG), an application on the SSR 8000 smart services router family.

Antonio Büchi, CEO of Entel, says: “This is a major milestone because now we will truly be able to have 4G anytime and anywhere. Our customers and users in general will enjoy faster speeds, greater coverage, and a more uniform service, both outdoors and indoors.”

Ericsson continues as the preferred supplier of Entel’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks and extends the partnership program which delivers consultancy services in the areas of technology, business and marketing. The new LTE network on the APT700 MHz band will be a multi-standard radio access network supported by Ericsson’s Antenna Integrated Radio (AIR) unit, part of the RBS 6000 family. This solution significantly reduces integration and installation time as well as energy consumption.

Nicolas Brancoli, Vice President of Ericsson Latin America, says: “With this agreement, we further strengthen our long-term strategic business relationship with Entel. We are glad to be entrusted with the deployment of the next-generation mobile network across Chile, so that the subscribers can enjoy an enhanced mobile experience and reliable services. This partnership will enable new and exciting opportunities for business, society and people in the country.”

Ericsson will also expand all relevant network software and deliver a range of professional services.

Entel and Ericsson have enjoyed a long-term partnership since 1997, based on a common commitment in enhancing the telecom experience for customers in Chile.

Ericsson is the market leader in LTE. Today, 50 percent of the world's LTE smartphone traffic is served by Ericsson networks, which is more than double the traffic of our closest competitor. More than 220 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks have been delivered worldwide, of which more than 160 have gone live commercially.
