The first brief, ‘Functions virtualization with software-defined infrastructure’ explains how service providers can industrialize NFV with software-defined infrastructure in order to increase agility and decrease total cost of ownership.
The second brief, ‘Transform how you manage your IT datacenter workloads’ looks at how a new approach, using Ericsson’s Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000 (HDS 8000), can increase infrastructure efficiency including reducing the power, cooling, and footprint of a service provider’s datacenter.
M. Shaaf, Principal Solution Architect at Red Hat, explains what is driving the market towards an a more open approach to cloud infrastructure:
"Whether stateless or cloud native, today’s environments are being shaped by the movement towards software-defined datacenters and networks, as well as the promise of enlightened automation that will take us to the next level of DevOps. And looking ahead to 5G, autonomous cars, the Internet of Things (IoT) and vertical-ready derived stacks and services, we can see that all will be backed by the same cloud infrastructure that consumers, operators and enterprises will use”.
The two new papers were released in advance of the Red Hat Summit, an open-source innovation event that takes place in Boston, USA, May 2-4. In October 2016, Ericsson announced a partnership with Red Hat to collaborate on hardware and software roadmaps aimed at developing new joint offerings for NFV infrastructure, SDN, and Software Defined-Infrastructure.
