Ericsson-owned Vonage and American multinational telecommunications operator AT&T are collaborating to expand the power of the network for developers and enterprises through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
By combining AT&T’s API-enabled network capabilities with Vonage's communications and network APIs, the companies are collaborating to drive the creation of an innovative ecosystem that unlocks programmable network capabilities for developers.
Network capabilities exposed through industry standard and innovative new APIs are expected to be available for preview, beginning in the second quarter of 2024, to deliver new services and solutions to optimize application performance, create new applications, and drive better customer experiences.
Vonage’s communications and network APIs make it easy for developers to embed communications capabilities into applications, systems and workflows.
With AT&T’s network leadership, together they plan to enable developers to build advanced secure, reliable and innovative applications by exposing 5G and converged capabilities through APIs in support of driving an ecosystem for open innovation.
AT&T will build upon its legacy of network innovation to make user-friendly communications and network APIs available for preview by developers to drive scalability and business case development together with enhanced security.
These API offerings will include innovative new network APIs such as APIs to detect anomalous behaviour, deliver insights into network performance, and drive converged programmable network solutions.
Standardised CAMARA APIs are expected to also be available, such as Number Verification API, Device Status API and the SIM Swap API, all of which will help developers to integrate fraud detection and device management functionality into their applications, enhancing security and protecting users and businesses without burdening the customer experience.
Yigal Elbaz, Senior Vice President, Network CTO, AT&T, says: “AT&T has been on a network transformation journey for many years, and our network has become a powerful platform for innovation.”
He adds: “We’ve been using these capabilities internally, and we are now excited to invite developer communities to take advantage of these novel network capabilities. Vonage is our first collaborator in this endeavour, thanks to its robust and engaged developer community and market leading communication API capabilities. We look forward to working with application service providers across developer ecosystems that can build innovative new solutions and co-create new areas of value for our customers through AT&T’s network.”
Savinay Berry, Executive Vice President, Product and Engineering, Vonage, says; “We are excited to announce our collaboration with AT&T. By combining our global communications and network APIs with AT&T’s mobile application development solutions, we will be able to together deliver innovative new services and capabilities to enterprises and end users, while accelerating innovation for the network.”
He adds: ”We expect the demand for new services, innovations and value creation enabled by 5G to grow significantly over the coming years.”
