Connected healthcare in Jiangsu, China
Healthcare in China is changing. New technologies are being pioneered to enhance the reliability of network communications, enabling disruptive research into transformative medical solutions – from diagnosis to treatment.
An ambitious partnership between Ericsson, AstraZeneca, Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND) and China Mobile seeks to bring these solutions to Jiangsu Province. Using the latest cellular technologies the partners will trial advanced healthcare applications in areas such as oncology, and respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, and gastrointestinal diseases.
This collaboration reflects how government and industry can cooperate with the common goal of creating an innovative and advantageous connected healthcare ecosystem, with Ericsson and AstraZeneca set to play significant roles in the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) for healthcare in China.
IoT for all
The partnership is facilitating a valuable exchange of knowledge and resources, enabling us to research how our technology can improve the lives of everyone in society. Together with our partners, we expect to upgrade thousands of nebulization rooms and centers for respiratory diseases, metabolic management and pain in Wuxi and other cities, profoundly improving the standard of care for people.
As part of the initiative, AstraZeneca is launching the IoT Healthcare Alliance, and China Commercial Innovation Centre (CCIC) to develop patient-focused solutions, incubate pilot projects, and encourage communication and collaboration between companies.
Our decades of innovation experience, and our Device Connection Platform (DCP), will empower AstraZeneca by integrating medical equipment with NarrowBand Internet of Things (NB-IoT) to provide real-time machine analysis and enable reliable connected healthcare.
By building faster and more stable IoT networks, the project aims to drive the development of IoT for healthcare in Wuxi, promote its widespread application in Jiangsu, and present a valuable blueprint for upgrading healthcare services across the entire country so that people everywhere are able to benefit.
Focus on: NarrowBand Internet of Things
NarrowBand Internet of Things enables a wide range of devices and services to be wirelessly connected using cellular telecommunications bands. This particular IoT technology is relatively cost-efficient, as it eliminates the need for a gateway to aggregate sensor data before sending it to the main server – instead having the ability to talk directly to the cloud.
NB-IoT has broad practical applications, but one of the most exciting is how it can be used to improve standards of healthcare. With NB-IoT, equipment can be fully integrated via the cloud, which allows for enhanced data gathering and analysis, and dramatically boosts machine efficiency and the reliability of network communications.
The collaboration between Ericsson, AstraZeneca and partners is accelerating research into an area of critical importance for society, helping to develop and promote disruptive technological healthcare solutions, while encouraging more companies to contribute towards a universal state-of-the-art connected healthcare ecosystem in China.
