Supporting sustainability goals

The Challenge

Borgward, a car brand popular in the 1940s-50s, reentered the European market as a German brand supported by capital from its Chinese parent company after half a century of absence. Originally founded in 1936, the automaker's successful sales in China's mainland inspired Borgward's ambition to rebuild its brand in Europe and expand globally. To relaunch its vehicles in its European home market, Borgward introduced a limited edition of its new "BX7" SUV, leveraging the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) for connected car capabilities and using sophisticated technology to deliver the services that drivers have come to expect.

In order to expand globally, Borgward's vehicle technology needed to adhere to international requirements. The automaker needed a partner that could deliver an end-to-end connected car solution quickly in Europe, as well as the rest of the world. Orange Business Services, the B2B division of the Orange group, became an ideal partner to support Borgward's global ambitions.

The Solution

The Orange Business Services IoT Connect Advanced solution, powered by the connectivity management suite of the Ericsson IoT Accelerator Platform and Orange's worldwide connectivity, is a winning combination for the capabilities that Borgward needs for its expansion. Orange Business Services also delivers cloud services, voice and SMS services as part of the end-to-end Borgward's IoV solution.

Through telecommunications operator, Ericsson's IoT connectivity management enables enterprises to easily and cost-effectively manage IoT devices on a national, regional or global scale with full control throughout the entire IoT device lifecycle in one easy-to-use dashboard. A unified global footprint means enterprises enjoy the same services and experience across all geographies, while the eUICC functionality allows for seamless global deployments without roaming.
